Aaron Rodgers’ NFL Future?

Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre believes New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers will continue his NFL career.
Favre, who started over Rodgers during the latter’s first three NFL seasons with the Green Bay Packers before similarly being traded to the Jets in 2008, said his former predecessor still has “something left,” despite one of the worst seasons of his inevitable Hall of Fame career.

“I think I’m right in saying that he has a lot of juice left in the tank,” Favre told TMZ Sports.
“I just know that he still can play,” he added. “It’s just a matter of does he want to and does he want to give it his all and does a team want to take a chance on him.”
Rodgers, 41, is currently signed with the Jets through the 2025 season. The four-time MVP suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first drive with the Jets in 2023 and had a disappointing season in 2024, leading the team to a 5-14 record.

Commanders Stun Lions 45-31

The Detroit Lions’ greatest season ever is over. The Washington Commanders had every answer Saturday night.
The Lions turned the ball four times, including a fumble and pick-six from Jared Goff and a trick play that ended with a season-crushing Jameson Williams interception, as Jayden Daniels and the Commanders silenced the Ford Field crowd in a shocking 45-31 upset.

Washington (14-5) moves onto the NFC championship game next Sunday for the first time since 1991, at either the Philadelphia Eagles or Los Angeles Rams.

The Lions (15-3) go home after a best-ever 15-2 regular season and their first-ever No. 1 seed. A win would have given them their first chance to host an NFC title game. They are only NFC team never to reach the Super Bowl.

Giants Fall to Eagles 20-13

The New York Giants closed out their 2024 regular season schedule with a trip down the New Jersey Turnpike to face the NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
The Eagles began the week locked into the No. 2 seed in the NFC and sat many of their key players, including former Giant running back Saquon Barkley, who was on pace to set a new NFL single-season mark for rushing yards.
The Giants were playing out the string and had most of their healthy starters on the field but played without inside linebacker Micah McFadden, center John Michael Schmitz, and right tackle Evan Neal again.

- The Giants could not muster much offense against an Eagles defense comprised of mainly backups. They had just 238 yards of total offense.
- The Eagles went 2-for-4 in the red zone, scoring two pass plays while the Giants only had one trip into the red zone and ended up kicking a field goal.
- The game was largely even statistically with the exception of penalties. The Giants had six for 40 yards while the Eagles had just one accepted penalty for zero yards.
Drew Lock’s pass deep left intended for Jalin Hyatt was intercepted by Eagles defensive back Sydney Brown at the Philadelphia 33-yard line and returned to the Giants’ 46 with 36 seconds remaining in regulation.
That killed any hope the Giants had of a comeback victory and sealed the 20-13 win for Philadelphia.

Jets Beat Dolphins 32-20

Sunday’s regular season finale looked a lot like the games the Jets were imagining when they traded for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Jets to a 32-20 win over the Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. Unfortunately, the win only moved the Jets’ record to 5-12 so they will not be playing any postseason games with the veteran quarterback.

The Dolphins won’t be playing any either. They came into Sunday with hopes of advancing to the playoffs, but the Broncos crushed the Chiefs second-string to sew up a playoff berth and eliminate the Dolphins before they officially eliminated themselves with the loss.
Rodgers hit tight end Tyler Conklin with his first touchdown and that made him the fourth player in NFL history to reach 500 career passing touchdowns. He ends the season with 503, which is five behind his former teammate Brett Favre for fourth place in league history. The questions of whether Rodgers will keep playing and, if he does, where he’ll be playing will be storylines to watch as the offseason gets rolling.

In addition to figuring out Rodgers’s situation, the Jets have big questions to answer about their next head coach and General Manager. Those decisions will chart a new course for a team that has now gone 14 seasons without making the playoffs.

Giants Surprise Colts

The New York Giants came in to their Week 17 game against the Indianapolis Colts in jeopardy of being the first team in NFL history to go 0-9 at home. Instead, the Giants surprised the Colts 45-33.
The Giants got off to a hot start with an impressive interception by Dane Belton and on the ensuing drive, both Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Malik Nabers eclipsed 1,000 yards on the season.

Drew Lock threw four touchdown passes and accounted for a fifth on the ground to seal the win, breaking a 10-game losing streak in the process.
Nabers had two touchdowns on the day and a career-high in receiving yards.
The Giants also opened the second half with their first kick-off return touchdown since 2015 by Ihmir Smith-Marsette.
The second half was quite the shootout and the Colts hung around late into the fourth quarter. However, the Giants continued to keep pace and were able to hold off the Colts’ attempts at a comeback.
With the win the Giants improved to 3-13, snapping a 10-game losing streak and avoid going 0-9 at home on the season. -
Bills Smash Woeful Jets

The Buffalo Bills (13-3) embarrassed the New York Jets (4-12) 40-14 behind three defensive turnovers and five sacks.

The Jets were the preseason favorites to win the AFC East. But the real kings of the division swept the Jets for the first time since 2021.
In addition to being sacked four times, once for a safety, Aaron Rodgers completed 12-of-18 passes for 112 yards and two interceptions. In the fourth quarter, Tyrod Taylor eventually replaced him, who finished 6-for-8 for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Garrett Wilson finished with seven catches for 66 yards and a touchdown reception.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen continued his MVP campaign with another solid game. He completed 16-of-27 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns before Mitchell Trubisky replaced him with a significant lead.
Sunday’s game against the Bills was a microcosm of the Jets’ season. Penalties, mistakes, and poor decisions plagued the Jets.
The Jets have been a total mess this season and looked exactly like that against the Bills. These two teams often play chippy games in recent years. Players have gone on the record to say they do not like each other. -
Mets Close to Signing Pete Alonso

Pete Alonso may wind up re-signing with the New York Mets, but it does not sound likely to happen any time soon.
Alonso and the Mets are currently far apart in talks, with a sizable gap between what the first baseman wants and what the Mets are offering right now.
The two sides are far enough apart that the Mets have considered other options at first base. One move could involve moving third baseman Mark Vientos to first and letting younger players like Brett Baty try to lock down the third base job.

The Mets, like many teams, are not prioritizing a need for power as much, which is hurting Alonso’s market. Alonso is also coming off a down year by his standards, as he hit .240 with 34 home runs in 2024. Setting aside the shortened 2020 season, that is the lowest single-season home run total of his career.
The first baseman remains a fan favorite, however, and bringing him back would be a popular move. Whether it is possible might depend on whether the two sides are willing to compromise.

Yankees Sign Max Fried to 8 Year Deal

After losing the Juan Soto sweepstakes, the New York Yankees began the unfurling of Plan B. Step one of The Great Bronx Pivot is an eight-year, $218 million contract with former Atlanta Braves southpaw Max Fried. The deal is the fourth-largest ever for a starting pitcher and the largest in MLB history for a left-hander.

Fried, who turns 31 in January, boasts the single lowest ERA in baseball since the start of 2020. Less reliant on strikeouts than other frontline hurlers, the two-time All-Star is elite at two other very valuable skills: avoiding hard contact and conjuring a parade of groundouts. That, alongside a track record of pinpoint control, means Fried carries a uniquely high floor.
Originally drafted seventh overall by the San Diego Padres out of an L.A.-area high school in 2012, Fried was dealt to Atlanta in 2014 as part of the prospect return for Justin Upton. Across parts of eight seasons with the Braves, the left-hander established himself as one of the sport’s more dependable starting pitchers. He finishes his Atlanta tenure with a sparkling 3.07 ERA in 884 1/3 innings.

Jets Fall to Rams 19-9

The Jets (4-11) started fast and held the ball for nearly an entire quarter but could not convert on a pair of timely fourth downs that resulted in 9 points and fell to the Rams (9-6), 19-9, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams picked up where they left off last week at Jacksonville as the Jets scored first on an 11-yard strike from Rodgers to Adams, who leaped in the back of the end zone to secure the pinpoint pass over Rams safety Kam Curl. The touchdown, which capped a 14-play, 99-yard drive in the first quarter, was No. 499 of Rodgers’ career and the 82nd to Adams, tying Dan Marino and Mark Clayton for the third-most touchdowns for a QB-WR duo in league history.

The Jets’ fast start in the coldest home game since the 2009 season continued as S Tony Adams intercepted Rams QB Matt Stafford, his first in the last six games, on the ensuing possession. That set up Rodgers & Co. on their 24-yard line, but the offense gave LA the ball back on the New York 33-yard line 4 plays later. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich elected go for it on fourth-and-1, but Breece Hall was stopped for no gain and a turnover on downs.

On the ensuing drive, Rodgers turned the ball over for the first time since Week 13. Curl punched the ball out from Rodgers’ hands and rookie edge rusher Jared Verse recovered on the Jets’ 21-yard line. Stafford’s touchdown pass to TE Tyler Higbee put the visitors up, 16-9, and the Rams later added a field goal with 5:22 remaining to seal the game.
