Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the 2025 NBA MVP, finished Sunday’s game with 29 points, 12 assists and five rebounds.
“A lot of hard work, a lot of hours in the gym. Panthers Are Stanley Cup Champions

The Florida Panthers completed their Stanley Cup repeat in style with a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 as four goals from Sam Reinhart helped them clinch back-to-back championships in front of an ecstatic home crowd in Sunrise.

In a rematch of last year’s Finals, the Panthers became the first team to repeat as champions since the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020-2021.
“The Stanley Cup is the most iconic trophy in sports and the most difficult to win,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman at the trophy presentation ceremony. “And while it may be difficult to win once, to do it twice in a row is almost impossible.”

Reinhart put the Panthers ahead five minutes into the game beating goaltender Stuart Skinner. Matthew Tkachuk doubled the lead in the final seconds of the first period. Reinhart scored his second of the night off his skate with 2:29 left in the second.
Reinhart killed off any hope of an Oilers comeback by scoring two empty-netters late in the third period, while Vasily Podkolzin grabbed a late consolation for Edmonton.

Sam Bennett, who scored 15 goals in the postseason, won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP.

Pete Alonso, Best Mets Slugger Ever?

Pete Alonso wasn’t satisfied just tying for second place on the Mets’ all-time home run list Sunday, so he claimed the spot as his own.
The sizzling first baseman had already homered once to tie David Wright with 242 homers as he approached the plate in the eighth inning at Coors Field.

Two pitches later he was ahead of Wright, with only Darryl Strawberry remaining ahead of him.
Alonso and Jeff McNeil each blasted two homers on a day the Mets totaled six.

Juan Soto reached base six times, becoming the first Mets player to accomplish that feat in a game since Alonso in 2019.
Alonso was a beast on the seven-game road trip, delivering five home runs and 15 RBIs.
Alonso, with his 23rd career multi-homer game, moved ahead of Strawberry as the all-time Mets leader in that category.
Alonso needs nine homers to match Strawberry at 252 as the leader in franchise history.

Scottie Scheffler Wins PGA Championship

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler won the 2025 PGA Championship, his second leg of the Grand Slam following two previous Masters Tournament victories.
Scheffler, 28, finished 17-under par, shooting 71 at even par during the final round, finishing five strokes ahead of Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley. The three-time major champion entered the final round with a solo lead after shooting 11-under through the first three rounds and a 65 on Saturday.

Scheffler shot a 69 in round one, a 69 in round two, a 71 in round three and a 71 in round four during the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Scheffler, who won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is now two legs shy of completing the career Grand Slam, with the U.S. Open and The Open Championship remaining on his 2025 schedule. The 28-year-old had previously finished second at the U.S. Open in 2022 and seventh at The Open Championship in 2024.

Yankees Seek Pitching Help

With the New York Yankees rotation struggling with the worst ERA in the majors right now, it is clear that general manager Brian Cashman needs to go out and get some help.
Pablo Lopez is a possible solution.

The 29-year-old Twins right-hander is currently sidelined with a minor hamstring issue, but he’s expected to return well before the trade deadline. And if Minnesota doesn’t get out of its slow start to the season, Lopez could instantly become one of the top starters on the market. He was an All-Star in 2023.
If Lopez returns from injury and regains his form, the Twins may ask for a big name talent to headline a deal. With Gerrit Cole out for the year and the rest of the rotation showing serious cracks, New York might be unable to afford not to make a deal, no matter how high the cost.

Bye, Bye, Knicks

It’s the Indiana Pacers against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2025 NBA Finals.

The Pacers finished off the New York Knicks on Saturday, winning 125-108 in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals after a third-quarter rally. It will be their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000, back when Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose starred while Larry Bird coached.

The Pacers players entered Gainbridge Fieldhouse decked out in all black, a shot at the Knicks doing the same last year, and fulfilled their promise of a funeral. They shot lights out, going 17-of-33 (51.5%) from 3-point range, and punished nearly all of the Knicks’ mistakes, with 34 points off 17 turnovers.
The Indiana offense was once again a beautiful machine, continuing a postseason in which they’ve outraced the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers and now the Knicks.

NFL to Play Game in Brazil

The NFL announced it will return to São Paulo, Brazil, in Week 1 of the 2025 season, with the Los Angeles Chargers as the designated team.
The NFL made its Brazilian debut during a Week 1 matchup at Corinthians Arena last season, which saw the eventual Super Bowl LIX champion Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Green Bay Packers in Week 1.

“After a successful and memorable first game in Brazil in 2024, we are delighted to confirm the league’s return to São Paulo with the Los Angeles Chargers as the designated team in what will be an incredible next chapter in the market,” said a spokesperson.
Brazil has long been a targeted market for the NFL, which said it had more than 36 million fans, the second-largest among international fan bases behind only Mexico. The league previously announced it would add Melbourne, Australia, to its international slate in 2026 at a date and time to be determined later.

Alex Palou Wins The Indy 500

Alex Palou continued his incredibly dominant IndyCar Series season with his first Indianapolis 500 win.

Palou passed Marcus Ericsson entering Turn 1 with 14 laps to go and held off Ericsson, David Malukas and Pato O’Ward the rest of the way. Ericsson lifted into the corner behind two lapped cars when Palou passed him and left a gap for the three-time IndyCar champion.

The victory is Palou’s fifth in six races in 2025 and the Barcelona native is the first Spanish driver to win the Indy 500. After winning the 2023 and 2024 IndyCar titles, Palou is even better in 2025. The only race of the season he didn’t win was the Long Beach Grand Prix. And Palou was second to Kyle Kirkwood in that event.

After getting out of his car on the front-stretch after the checkered flag, Palou ran down the track and celebrated with his crew and his father Ramon.
“I cannot believe it, what an amazing day, what an amazing race,” Palou said.

Yankees Win Subway Series vs Mets

In some ways, this weekend’s Subway Series could’ve been about the Mets taking over this baseball town. They came to the Yankees’ house toting their free agent prize, Juan Soto, pried from the Bronx last winter, along with a terrific pitching staff, a star shortstop and a better record. Maybe even better buzz citywide.
But the series ended and the Mets certainly didn’t look like the better team, especially after Sunday’s thud of a performance, an 8-2 loss that went kablooey in the eighth inning after Pete Alonso made a horrendous throw at first that allowed the go-ahead run to score, tilting a tight game.

A few months from now, the Mets might be the better team and they’re so talented, that an October stage should be their ultimate proving ground. The 29-18 Mets lost two of three, but still have a better record than the Yankees (27-19).

Soto moving to Queens for a 15-year, $765-million deal gave a forever jolt to the rivalry. Never had a player anywhere close to his stature left the Yankees for the Mets. He instantly gave a good team an even bigger, better vibe.

But he’s got to do more. He’s batting .246 with eight home runs and 20 RBI. His .822 OPS over a slow start — for him — shows how high his floor is. His first foray into the Subway Series as a Met was, to say the least, a disappointment.
