Rangers vs Hurricanes

Two days after completing a four-game sweep against the Washington Capitals, the New York Rangers know who their second-round opponent will be in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Rangers will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference Second Round. The start date for the series is not yet known.
The Hurricanes eliminated the New York Islanders with a 6-3 win in Game 5 down in Raleigh on Tuesday.

So, the stage is set for what should be a doozy of a series between the top two teams from the Metropolitan Division. The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Rangers finished first in the Metro this season, setting franchise records for wins (55) and points (114). The Hurricanes were second in the division with 111 points, which was third most in the NHL behind the Blueshirts and Dallas Stars (113).

Knicks Win Series Over 76ers

Josh Hart raised his arms and extended three fingers on each hand on his go-ahead 3-pointer from the top of the arc with 24.4 seconds left that was finally enough to send the New York Knicks past the Philadelphia 76ers 118-115 in Game 6 on Thursday night and into the second round of the playoffs.
Jalen Brunson had 41 points and 12 assists to lead the Knicks, who are set for an Eastern Conference semifinal matchup with Indiana. The Pacers beat Milwaukee in six games and advanced to the second round for the first time in 10 years.
Jalen Brunson is the first NBA player to score 40 or more to close out a series since Michael Jordan for Chicago against Cleveland in 1989.

NY Rangers Advance!

Artemi Panarin had a goal and an assist, and the New York Rangers eliminated the Washington Capitals with a 4-2 win in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Capital One Arena on Sunday.
New York will play either the Carolina Hurricanes or New York Islanders in the second round. The Hurricanes lead that best-of-7 series 3-1.
Kaapo Kakko, Vincent Trocheck and Jack Roslovic scored for the Rangers, who are the No. 1 seed from the Metropolitan Division. Mika Zibanejad had two assists, and Igor Shesterkin made 23 saves.
“I just think that it says that we’re a good hockey team,” Trocheck said of the sweep. “We showed it every game. I think even tonight when we weren’t at our best, we still were able to do the little things right whenever we had a lead.”

NY Mets Sweep Pirates

The Mets offense broke out for nine runs to defeat the Pirates 9-1 and finish off a series sweep of Pittsburgh. Tyrone Taylor led the charge with three hits while both Starling Marte and Harrison Bader went deep.
The Mets pitching was again solid which started with Luis Severino. He gave up one run in six innings and the bullpen handled the rest.
“We mixed some two-seamers in there to get some double plays and I think that helped,” Severino said.
For Severino, who lowered his ERA to 2.14, it was a third straight start of allowing one earned run or less. On this day he got the win — his first in a Mets uniform.

Mets Will Retire Numbers of Strawberry and Gooden

The team will retire both Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden’s numbers during separate pregame ceremonies during the 2024 season.
There are five other players whose numbers the Mets have retired: Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, Jerry Koosman, Keith Hernandez and Willie Mays.
“I’m thrilled that two iconic members of the 1986 championship club will have their numbers retired in 2024,” Mets owner Steve Cohen said in a statement.
“Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden each had an enormous impact on our franchise and it’s my honor to continue our commitment to celebrating our wonderful history.”
Strawberry debuted in 1983 and took home NL Rookie of the Year honors.
He spent eight seasons with the team, earning seven All-Star selections and breaking the team record for all-time home runs with 252.

Gooden debuted in 1984 and dazzled over 11 years in Queens, with the highlight coming in 1985 when he won the NL Cy Young Award after winning the pitching triple crown, leading the league in wins (24), ERA (1.53) and strikeouts (268).
Gooden won 157 games in a Mets uniform and posted a 3.10 ERA.

Who is Conor McGregor’s Next Fight Against?

The long-awaited Conor McGregor next fight news has arrived, and after years away from the sport, the Irish superstar is expected to step back into the Octagon this year. However, a specific fight date is still unclear.
After three years away from the sport and months of speculation, McGregor is expected to return to action this year. He took to his social media accounts and claimed he would return to headline a card against Michael Chandler — the man he has been booked to face for the last year — in July and at middleweight.
However, since posting that message that return date seems less likely. Now, it is expected to (hopefully) happen in the fall after UFC boss Dana White said he was targeting a fight date later this year.
Conor McGregor versus Michael Chandler is a bout fight fans around the world had hoped to see for some time. Despite the fight being pushed back for a year as McGregor avoided getting into the USADA testing pool, it is a matchup well worth the wait.
