Yankees Beat Astros 7-1

For the second time in as many days, the Yankees staged a comeback victory against the Astros, this time waiting six innings to score before clinging to a lead and then running away with it in a 7-1 win at Minute Maid Park.
On the way there, Carlos Rodon walked a tightrope in his season debut, two-way star Juan Soto survived an injury scare, Gleyber Torres did not, Oswaldo Cabrera piled up four hits and three RBIs and in the eighth inning, a nail-biter turned into a laugher.

Cabrera and Soto led the way in the late-game heroics, getting the Yankees off to a 2-0 start to the season and guaranteeing at least a split of the four-game series.
“You see all the teammates doing big things and just trying to show that we never give up,” said Cabrera, who went 2-for-4 with a game-tying home run on Opening Day.

The Yankees were held scoreless through six innings by Astros right-hander Cristian Javier before they pounced with more tough at-bats in the seventh, eighth and ninth against Houston’s bullpen.
For good measure, Giancarlo Stanton joined the party in the ninth inning with a bullet home run to left-center field.

Brewers One-Hit Mets

Simply, the Mets got over-matched by Freddy Peralta and the Brewers bullpen, falling silent in a 3-1 Opening Day loss before a Citi Field sellout crowd of 42,137.
Starling Marte’s second-inning homer provided hope for the afternoon.

It turned out to be the Mets’ only hit. Masters of Opening Day, the Mets lost their first opener since 2019 in Washington.
The homer was Marte’s first since July 4 of last season. It marked the third straight season in which Marte homered in the Mets’ first home game.

Marte’s shot into the wind on this day registered 109 mph off the bat. It was one of the limited opportunities for Mets fans to cheer as the offense stumbled out of the gate, striking out eight times against the Brewers ace and twice more against the Brewers bullpen.
DJ Stewart and Francisco Lindor were the only other Mets to reach base, with walks in the second and seventh innings.

Philadelphia Eagles Sign Free Agent Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley’s wish to be a Giant for life will not be granted. Instead, he has flown the coop and is headed to the rival Eagles.
The star running back on the first day of free agency agreed to a three-year contract to trade blue for green and move on down the Jersey Turnpike to suit up for the Eagles.
The deal is worth $37.75 million, with a guarantee of $26 million.
This will not sit well with all those Giants fans who bought Barkley’s No. 26 jersey and now will see him play for an NFC East opponent they despise.
Barkley posted a brief goodbye on X, writing “Thank you to everyone who has shown me love and support over the past 6 years… forever grateful! Excited for the next chapter.’’ He followed that up with two emojis of bald eagles.
With the Giants, Barkley endured five losing seasons in his six years, playing for three different head coaches.
In many ways, his first season was his finest, with 1,307 rushing yards and what turned out as career-highs in rushing average (5.0) and receptions (91). Barkley was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and he was on his way to greatness, it seemed.
That greatness was few and far between and now he will look for that greatness elsewhere.

Honda Recalls 250,000 Vehicles

Honda issued a recall for 250,000 vehicles because of a manufacturing error that could damage the engine.
The recall covers the 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline, and 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that “the connecting rod bearing in the engine may wear and seize, damaging the engine.”
This could cause the engine to stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
Owners will be able to take their vehicle to a dealer, where technicians will inspect and repair the engine. If the engine is damaged beyond repair, they will replace it free of charge.
