  • Kevin Durant Traded to Phoenix Suns

Kevin Durant Traded to Phoenix Suns

The Brooklyn Nets traded Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster move. The Suns will send forward Jae Crowder  to the Nets, and Brooklyn will also receive Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, and four unprotected first-round draft picks in 2023, 2025, 2027 and 2028.

After the Nets traded Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, Durant reportedly met with Brooklyn’s front office to discuss “the direction of the franchise and its ability to be a championship contender.” Apparently, those conversations were not fruitful.

Durant previously requested a trade with a strong preference to join the Suns with Chris Paul and Devin Booker. Neither Paul nor Booker have won an NBA title, and the addition of Durant could have vaulted them to championship favorites.

Durant is in the first year of a four-year, $194 million extension he signed in August 2021 when the Nets had a Big 3 of Durant, Irving and James Harden. None of them no longer wear a Nets uniform.

  • Chiefs Tomahawk Eagles 38-35

    Chiefs Tomahawk Eagles 38-35

For the second time in the last four seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions. Coming back from 10 points down at halftime, the Chiefs scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions in the second half to claim a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

In doing so, the Chiefs became the second team in NFL history to come back from a double-digit halftime deficit to win the Super Bowl. Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes also became the first player since Kurt Warner in 1999 to win NFL MVP and lead his team to a victory in the Super Bowl.

Mahomes was simply spectacular in the second half, completing 13 of 15 passes for 93 yards and two scores while adding a crucial 26-yard scramble on what would eventually become the game-winning drive. The newly-crowned NFL MVP completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns and rushed six times for 44 additional yards.

Each of Mahomes’ touchdown passes went to different receivers with tight end Travis Kelce grabbing an 18-yard score on the Chiefs’ first possession of the game. Wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore found the end zone in the second half with a first-half fumble return touchdown serving as Kansas City’s other entry into the end zone.

For the Eagles, QB Jalen Hurts was nearly as marvelous as Mahomes throughout the game. He became just the second player in NFL history to rush for three or more touchdowns in the Super Bowl, and he added a fourth score through the air. On the evening, he completed 27 of 38 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown while taking 15 carries for 70 yards plus the three scores.

  • Kyrie Irving Traded To Mavericks

    Kyrie Irving Traded To Mavericks

The Kyrie Irving melodrama is finally over, the Nets shipping him to Dallas in the end of an era.

The Brooklyn Nets traded Kyrie Irving and veteran forward Markieff Morris to the Dallas Mavericks in return for guard Spencer Dinwiddie, forward Dorian Finney-Smith, an unprotected 2029 first-round selection and 2027 and 2029 second-rounders.

Talented but troubled, Irving arrived in 2019 along with star Kevin Durant, whose status with the Nets will now be thrown into question. Irving was averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds, the eight-time All-Star brilliant when he plays.

In the end, Irving’s unavailability outweighed his ability, suiting up for just 143 out of a possible 278 games in Brooklyn and seeing his relationship with the organization break down over the past two years.

Irving missed two-thirds of last season due to his refusal to adhere to New York’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates, was suspended eight games without pay this season for promoting an anti-Semitic movie and has had multiple contentious contract negotiations. The last one was the final breaking point in the marriage.

  • Chocolate Valentine’s

    Chocolate Valentine’s

In the 19th century, chocolate was considered a luxury item and was relatively expensive. However, as manufacturing processes improved and the price of chocolate decreased, it became more accessible to the general public.

The first chocolate factory in the United States was established by Conrad Van Houten in the 1828, making it easier for people to purchase chocolate.

In the late 1800s, candy companies began to capitalize on the growing popularity of chocolate by marketing it as a gift for Valentine’s Day. These early Valentine’s Day chocolates were often packaged in heart-shaped boxes, which helped to further establish the association between chocolate and the holiday.

It was also around that time that the industrial revolution made it possible to produce chocolate in mass quantities and chocolate makers began to experiment with new forms and flavors of chocolate.

By the early 20th century, Valentine’s Day chocolates had become a major industry, with many companies competing to produce the most creative and appealing chocolate gifts. The tradition of giving chocolates to loved ones on Valentine’s Day has continued to this day and it’s considered as a romantic and thoughtful gift.

  • Yankees Give New Deal to Anthony Rizzo

Yankees Give New Deal to Anthony Rizzo

The New York Yankees have reached an agreement on a new, multi-year contract with first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

Anthony Rizzo truly enjoyed being a Yankee, and getting $20 million a year to stay — $17 million each of the next two years, plus a $6 million buyout on a 2025 option will keep him in the Bronx.

Rizzo, who was acquired by the Yankees from the Chicago Cubs prior to the 2021 trade deadline, was one of the team’s most consistent hitters during the postseason, leading all players with eight RBIs and a .432 on base percentage, as well as finishing second behind only Harrison Bader with eight total hits and two home runs, which tied Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Rizzo had previously signed a two-year, $32 million deal with the Yankees last offseason, which included an opt out after the first year, allowing him to test free agency this offseason.

The Parkland, Florida native hit a career best 32 home runs — a feat he accomplished three times (2014, 2016, 2017) with the Cubs — and 75 RBIs in 130 games.

  • Tom Brady Announces Retirement

    Tom Brady Announces Retirement

Tom Brady is hanging up his cleats — for good.

In an emotional message posted on Instagram, the 45-year-old quarterback confirmed that he is ending his prolific NFL career after 23 seasons, the final three of which were spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This comes one year after he was rushed into retirement by news leaks and then changed his mind 40 days later.

“Hey guys I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring. For good,” Brady said in a 53-second social-media selfie video filmed on a beach. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first.”

Brady, 45, was about to be a free agent for the second time in his career. Established as the Greatest of All-Time after 20 seasons with the Patriots, Brady signed with the Buccaneers from a limited field of suitors in 2020 and immediately made everyone else pay by winning his seventh Super Bowl.

  • Big Money Offer Made to Stone Cold Steve Austin

Big Money Offer Made to Stone Cold Steve Austin

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is unlikely to do WrestleMania this year. He has told friends that he does not feel like he can get in ring shape by that time.

But a pitch has been made to Stone Cold Steve Austin to wrestle Roman Reigns in the main event. The offer made to Austin was reportedly for “enormous” money.

The money that is being offered to Austin is apparently more than what was offered to him last year. Last Summer, Austin was approached with a deal that was “not as appealing from a financial standpoint.” There’s no word on if Austin has or plans to accept the new offer.

The plans for the top WrestleMania matches were for Roman Reigns to wrestle against The Rock in the second night. The first night would have featured Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes. There’s no word on if those matches are still planned.
