It’s that time of year when game predictions, Super Bowl predictions, all that good stuff come flying out the window, only to be completely blown up within the first few weeks of the season.

Nonetheless, we all try to put our thinking caps on and gaze into our crystal ball to see how the season will play out. That’s what Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr recently did, predicting all 272 games of the regular season. And his prediction for the Jets may make some folks a little upset.

Orr has the Jets finishing 6-11 this season, last in the AFC East. That includes a predicted five-game losing streak through their Weeks 5 through 9 stretch against the Dolphins, Packers, Broncos, Patriots and Bills, putting the Jets at 2-7 going into their Week 10 bye.

Orr does have New York winning three straight at the end of the season against the Lions, Jaguars and Seahawks before finishing the season with a loss to the Dolphins.

Kurt Cobain’s childhood home in Washington state has been unanimously approved by the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation to be turned into a landmark.

Now considered historically significant, the modest 1,500-square-foot home where the late rocker grew up is expected to become an exhibit.

Fans will be able to travel back in time to see the house where the iconic rock star grew up — discovering the home as it was left when he lived there.

Cobain lived in the one-and-a-half-story house in Aberdeen from 1968 to 1984.

Neighborhood zoning regulations will prevent the residence from becoming a full-time museum, but the home will be available for the occasional private tour.

For the second straight season, the Astros will represent the American League in the World Series.

The Astros swept the Yankees in the 2022 ALCS to win their fourth pennant in six years. And for the second year in a row, they’re going up against an NL East team that has gotten hot at the right time in the Phillies.

After a lengthy rain delay Sunday, Game 4 got off to an inauspicious start for Houston. The Yankees jumped out in front with two runs in the first inning and another one in the second.

In the third, however, ALCS MVP Jeremy Peña broke the seal for Houston with a three-run home run off Nestor Cortes following a pair of walks.

The Yankees, to their credit, came back. After Anthony Rizzo had his second RBI of the game in the fourth, Harrison Bader gave New York the lead with a home run in the sixth. It wouldn’t last long, however, as Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman drove in runs in the top of the seventh to give the Astros the lead for good, 6-5.

The red-hot New York Jets defeated the Denver Broncos 16-9 at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday, improving to 5-2 with their fourth straight victory. The Broncos dropped their fourth straight game and fall to 2-5.

Both offenses started off slowly, but the Jets’ Breece Hall ended that with a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Hall would later go down with a knee injury and was lost for the remainder of the game. The Jets reportedly suspect an ACL injury.

The Broncos started Brett Rypien at quarterback with Russell Wilson injured. He led a long drive that ended in a two-yard score from Latavius Murray, but  a missed extra point.

The Broncos made a 44-yard field goal to take a 9-7 lead in the second quarter. The Jets later hit three fields goal of their own and the Jets defense shut down the Broncos to seal the win.

A fourth-down stop with less than a minute left in the game made the Jets’ victory official.

Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley led another comeback in the final period to get New York to 6-1 on the season after beating the Jaguars 23-17. The Giants rushed for 236 yards in the win — 100 each from Barkley and Jones — as they paced New York in a dominant fourth quarter to win their fourth straight game. 

New York had a scare in the final seconds when Christian Kirk caught a Trevor Lawrence pass inside the 1-yard line with seconds left on the clock, but Fabian Moreau and other defenders prevented him from scoring what would have given Jacksonville the lead with a score and an extra point. Kirk was stopped inside the 1-yard line, and the Giants held on for the win since Jacksonville had no time left on the clock.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll on Daniel Jones: “He played good again. He played the way we needed to play.” 

Jones finished 19 of 30 for 202 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions (94.0 rating) while rushing for 107 yards and a score in the win. He had his fifth game-winning drive of the season as well.

WWE superstar Cody Rhodes is reportedly recovering well from his pectoral injury. 

Rhodes, who has been out of action due to a torn pectoral muscle since June, is working out, but any upper body weights he uses are extremely light.

Rhodes doesn’t have a set return date, but could possibly be cleared for a surprise Royal Rumble return or for WWE’s Day 1 pay-per-view — which will be held in his hometown of Atlanta.

Rhodes made his WWE return after a nearly six-year absence at WrestleMania 37 in April, becoming the first major All Elite Wrestling star to sign with the company, having also previously served as an executive and a crucial factor in the promotion’s 2019 launch.

After the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz were unable to come to an agreement on a trade for Donovan Mitchell, New York’s front office opted to sign RJ Barrett to a four-year, $120 million extension. With Mitchell now on the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Knicks are moving forward under the direction of Barrett.

Barrett, who turned 22 in June, is entering his fourth season in the NBA. He’s steadily improved each year, and last season, he averaged 20 points in 70 contests. With New York signing Jalen Brunson in free agency, Barrett’s numbers are expected to improve now that an actual point guard will be running the team’s offense.

After the 2021-22 season came to an end, Barrett said that his goal for the upcoming season is to earn his first All-Star nod. There’s reason to believe that could happen, although being that RJ’s on the Knicks, many people are doubting him. However, New York fans know what Barrett’s capable of and expect to see him fully take over in 2022-23.

Gerrit Cole is undeniably the ace for the Yankees, and he did exactly what he’s supposed to in this division series. Cole may not have been the absolute best starter for New York this season, but he is their most talented, and the one they will always lean on when he’s needed the most. They needed the world from Cole in the ALDS, and he delivered.

The New York Jets’ dominated Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 27 – 10.

In the first half, neither team could get much going on offense. In the third quarter, the Jets put together a 74-yard drive highlighted by two Corey Davis catches that got the Jets down to the Packers 20-yard line. From there, Braxton Berrios ran it in for a 10-3 Jets lead.

Micheal Clemons blocked a Packers punt, and the Jets recovered and ran it in for a touchdown and a 17-3 lead late in the 3rd quarter.

The Packers answered with a 75-yard drive helped by two Jets penalties. A 25-yard Aaron Rodgers to Allen Lazard touchdown pass capped off the drive to bring the Packers within 7 points at 17-10 late in the 3rd quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, Breece Hall broke free for a 34-yard touchdown run to give the Jets a 24-10 lead.

The Jets then put together an impressive drive to seal the victory. Running the ball on every play, the Jets chewed up clock and got the ball all the way down to the 1-yard line before settling for a short field goal and an all but insurmountable 27-10 lead with less than 3 minutes to play.
