Blue Jays Top Yankees 4-0

On another lifeless night for their offense, the Yankees were blanked by the Blue Jays in a 4-0 loss at the Stadium.
The Yankees (73-47) lost for the 14th time in their last 18 games and fell to 12-24 since July 8. Their lead atop the AL East that day was a season-high 15 ½ games, but after Friday night, the Blue Jays (64-54) have cut it to eight games — the smallest it has been since June 13.
Over their last 10 games, the Yankees have scored just 19 runs — eight of which came in their wild comeback win Wednesday. That game seems little more than a blip on the radar for a team that has otherwise struggled mightily at the plate.
Not even Aaron Judge could put the Yankees on his back. The AL MVP favorite went 0-for-2 with a walk and is now 2-for-23 over his last seven games in a rare off week, though he is far from the only Yankee in that group.
LeMahieu is on a 4-for-28 skid. Anthony Rizzo is 6-for-38. Josh Donaldson is 6-for-37. Andrew Benintendi is 7-for-35. Gleyber Torres is 6-for-40. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is 5-for-33.

Mets Beat Reds 5-1

Chris Bassitt was worthy of a gold star for his effectiveness and yet another for longevity Monday night.
The Mets had utilized their bullpen plenty in playing five games over four days against the Braves, and extra rest for that group was a commodity, even a day after many of manager Buck Showalter’s top options remained idle.
Bassitt emerged with eight strong innings that led a 5-1 victory over the Reds at Citi Field. The Mets won for the sixth time in seven games and widened their NL East lead on the Braves to seven games.
Already at 95 pitches, Bassitt was entrusted the eighth and struck out potential tying run Aristides Aquino after allowing a two-out single to Jake Fraley. Bassitt threw a season-high 114 pitches in allowing one unearned run on eight hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Manhattan Is Getting Its First-Ever Sonic Fast Food Outlet

Fast food franchise “Sonic” is headed to Manhattan. The Real Deal reports that the Oklahoma City-based chain will open a new location in Midtown, at 966 Sixth Avenue, between West 35th and West 36th streets. An opening date has not been disclosed yet.
The opening marks the chain’s second restaurant in NYC, following a 2015 debut on the southern end of Staten Island. Not surprisingly, some adjustments had to be made for Manhattan’s limited real estate. While New Yorkers will be able to walk up and grab a burger and a limeade at this location, there will be no drive-in or drive-thru service at the Midtown shop.
A location of Pax Wholesome Foods, which has since shut down, previously occupied the 2,000 square-foot Midtown space.
The NYC deal is part of a larger expansion effort by Sonic. The chain, which has over 3,000 locations nationwide, announced long-term plans in 2014 to add 1,000 more locations over the next 10 years. Parent company Inspire Brands also owns other fast food franchises including Arby’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin’ Donuts, Jimmy John’s, and Rusty Taco.

Yankees Beat Mariners 9-4

After a miserable few days in St. Louis, the Yankees got back to winning, snapping their season-high five-game losing streak with a 9-4 win over the Mariners at T-Mobile Park.
But it came with a cost, as Matt Carpenter suffered a fractured left foot in the first inning and could be lost for the season.
Against Seattle, they had enough to overcome Carpenter’s absence, as Josh Donaldson had four hits — including a two-run single in the first and a solo homer in the third — and Aaron Judge crushed his 44th homer of the season.
Jameson Taillon continued his pattern of being good every other start, as he gave up three runs in seven innings.
“It was definitely nice to get one,’’ Aaron Boone said after the win. “It’s been a rough week for us.”
